Living Herds · Mindanao, Philippines
Healthy dairy goats. Fresh milk. Income that stays in the community.
Living Herds is a nonprofit working with indigenous communities on Mindanao to raise better dairy goats, train local families to care for them, and sell the milk — so the herds, and the income, keep growing year after year.
What we do
Better herds
With the Philippines’ National Dairy Authority (NDA), we improve the genetics of local dairy goat herds, so each goat gives more milk and stays healthy in the local climate.
Training and distribution centers
Community centers where families learn goat care, feeding, breeding and clean milk handling — and from where healthy live goats go out to the families who will raise them.
Milk that pays
Milk is collected and sold, including to government programs. The income goes back to the communities the work serves and pays for the centers to keep running.
Why goats?
A dairy goat eats what grows on small farms, needs little space, and gives milk every day. A good herd grows on its own: today’s kids are next year’s milking does. That makes goats one of the most practical ways for a rural family to earn steady income and put fresh milk on the table.
Who we are
